Martin V. Boatner, 78, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2020, at his residence in Louisville, Mississippi. Graveside services will be 12 noon Saturday, June 27 at Mars Hill Cemetery with Bro. Scott Boatner and Bro. Mark Mayo officiating. Interment will follow in Mars Hill Cemetery.
Martin was born June 21, 1942, to Howard and Ruby Manning Boatner in Winston County, Mississippi. He was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church of Louisville. Martin was an avid fan of Ole Miss Football and he also enjoyed camping and fishing. He began his career in Louisville working with Mr. M. D. McMinn and eventually retired from Dixie Wholesale Waterworks in 1998 after more than 30 years of service. He answered the call of his country by serving in the United States Navy.
Martin is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Johnnie Maxey Boatner, and his two sons Gary Boatner and wife Angie, and Richard Boatner and wife Lynn all of Louisville. One of his greatest joys in life was being “Granddaddy” to his grandchildren Marty Boatner and Joseph (Ashley) Boatner. He is also survived by his brother Don Boatner, and his brother-in-law Millard Lloyd both of Philadelphia, Mississippi. Martin was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Birtha Lloyd.
Serving as pallbearers are C. J. Boatner, Casey Boatner, Donny Boatner, Lenny Boatner, Bobby Lloyd and Robby Lloyd. Memorial contributions in honor of Martin may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Tribute Program, P. O. Box 1000 Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
