James Lamar Hailey

James Lamar Hailey, age 71, passed away surrounded by his loving family Sunday, January 26, 2020, at his residence in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, at the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Phillip Williams and Rev. Adam Sloan officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 11:00 a.m. until service time at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Interment will immediately follow the service in Hailey-Richey Cemetery in Preston with Rev. Becky Smith officiating.

Lamar was born December 13, 1948, to J. T. and Alice Scarbrough Hailey. He was a member of Vernon Methodist Church. Lamar loved anything to do with being outdoors—hunting, fishing, farming, and taking care of his cows. All who knew Lamar know that he loved to make people laugh and was quite a prankster. He answered the call of his country by serving in the Army National Guard for six years.

Lamar is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Kaye Sloan Hailey; his daughter Apryl Bane and husband David; and grandson Braxton Bane all of Louisville. He is also survived by his brother Robert Hailey and wife Peggy; his niece Belynda (Chip) Luke; and two nephews Allen H. (Ann) Hailey; and Malcolm H. (Mandy) Hailey; great-nephews Tanner and Tatum Luke; and four great-nieces: Laura Beth, Kady Rose, Mallory, and Harley. He also leaves behind two brothers-in law: Ernie (Lorie) Sloan and their children Jonathan and JayCee; and Bruce (Teri) Sloan and their son Adam (Nicole) Sloan; and great-great-nephew Gabrielle Sloan. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Serving as pallbearers are Allen Hailey, Malcolm Hailey, Ricky Patterson, Steve Triplett, Donnie Woodruff, and Barry Yarbrough. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Addkison, Wade Hailey, Chip Luke, Tanner Luke, Tatum Luke, Ray Reed, Bruce Sloan, and Ernie Sloan. Memorials in memory of Lamar may be given to the Hailey-Richey Cemetery Fund, c/o Gladys Jackson, 1421 County Line Road, Preston, MS 39354 or to the Parkinson’s Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131.
