Roy T. Shepperd, age 93, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, May 30, 2019, at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi. Visitation will be Saturday, June 1, 2019, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home and Sunday, June 2, one hour prior to the service at First Pentecostal Church of Noxapater. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, June 2 at First Pentecostal Church of Noxapater with Rev. Dewayne Barrett, and Rev. Antoine Stokes officiating. Interment will follow in Sunrise Cemetery in Noxapater.
Roy was born May 22, 1926, in Noxapater to James Andrew and Ollie Parks Shepperd. He attended the First Pentecostal Church of Noxapater and also attended East Central Junior College. He enjoyed gardening and visiting flea markets and yard sales but he was known for his love of music: singing and playing the guitar. Roy retired from Taylor Machine Works after 20 years of service as an Automotive Electrician. He answered the call of his country by serving in the United States Air Force during World War II.
Roy is survived by his five children: Sherry Kinard, Keith Shepperd, and Scott Shepperd all of Noxapater; and Tim Shepperd and Tammy Sanders and husband Ken all of Louisville. One of his greatest joys was being “Granddaddy” to his 11 grandchildren: Donya Kinard, Samantha (Jason) Dearing, Heather (Michael) Cumberland, Rebecca (Quinn) Daniel, Taylor (Josh) Johns, Jonathan Crocker, Christin (Jason) Sanders, Chase (Christy) Sanders, Lance Sanders, Zane Sanders, and EmmaGrace Sanders. He also leaves behind 11 great-grandchildren: Reagan (Nick) Williams, Jordan (Coby) Bradford, Holton Manross, Dalton Keith Shepperd, Matthew Scott Shepperd, Anna Grace Shepperd, Kase Daniel, Peyton Daniel, Scarlett Jane Daniel, Everly Harper Johns, and Brooklyn Gordy. Roy is also survived by four sisters-in-law: Lee Holton, Sue Shepperd, Joyce Shepperd, and Della Shepperd; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris Shepperd; son Chris Shepperd; granddaughter Laiken Grace Sanders; his parents; daughter-in-law Scarlet Shepperd; and his siblings: Harold Shepperd, O’Neil Shepperd, Olynn Shepperd, Jewel Shepperd, Troy Shepperd, Willie Shepperd, Lillie Roark, and Thad Shepperd.
Serving as pallbearers will be Robbie Matson, Chase Sanders, Jason Sanders, Lance Sanders, Zane Sanders, and Terry Shepperd. Honorary pallbearers are Michael Cumberland, Ken Shepperd, and Jimmy Lovorn.
