Franklin Lamar Boyd, age 77, passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville, Mississippi. Visitation will be Thursday, December 6 from 5:00 p.m. until 7 p.m. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 7 in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bryan Carruba and Rev. George Bueller officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Lamar was born March 30, 1941, to Robert and Ella Rebecca Rives Boyd. He was a member of Meadowview Baptist Church of Starkville. Lamar was also a retired United Methodist Church minister; a Mason; a member of the Eastern Star; and past president of the Woodmen of the World Fraternity. He had a gift of serving God on a personal level always praying for young couples with small children when he encountered them in public settings. Lamar also served as the National Coordinator for Discover God’s Call which is a United Methodist Church program designed to guide and encourage individuals to explore their calling; and he served and participated in Emmaus Walks.
Lamar is survived by his loving wife Jeanette Linton Boyd of Starkville; two sons Steven Lamar Boyd and wife Celestine of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; and Stacy Damar Boyd and wife Amy of Niceville, Florida; and two step-daughters Marsha Stricklin and husband Billy of Ackerman, Mississippi; and Amanda Pritchitt of Eupora, Mississippi. One of his greatest joys was being “Papaw” to his three grandchildren: Isaiah Boyd; Austin Williamson; and Miranda (Joshua) Thompson. He is also survived by his brother Eddie Boyd of Brandon, Mississippi; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother William Henry Boyd; and his sister Frances Childress.
Serving as pallbearers are Eddie Boyd, Isaiah Boyd, Stacy Boyd, and Steven Boyd. Memorials in honor of Lamar may be given to Celebrate Recovery Golden Triangle, c/o Meadowview Baptist Church, 300 Linden Circle, Starkville, MS 39759.
