Lindel was born June 20, 1926, in Neshoba County, Mississippi, to William and Delia Adcock Yates. She was a member of Indian Springs Assembly of God Church. She worked at the Pants Factory and at Spartus Corporation during her working years. She was a great cook, an avid reader, and loved taking up time with children.
Lindel is survived by her daughter, Judy Smith and husband, Bobby Joe, of Noxapater; two sons, Terry Hartness of Louisville; and Ted Hartness of Noxapater; and her daughter-in-law, Janice Hartness Thomas of Philadelphia, Mississippi. One of her greatest joys was being “Grandma” to her eight grandchildren: Sylvia Williams (Joel); Ray Hartness (Dana); Randy Smith (Janess); Rodney Smith; Ryan Smith (Kristi); Taylor Hartness; Colton Hartness; and Paige Hartness; as well as her nine great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn her passing is her sister, Barbara Berch and husband Frank; and her brother, Bubba Yates. She was preceded in death by her husband, Malachi Hartness; her son, Jerry Hartness; her parents; and her siblings, L. C. Yates; Ethel Yates; Naomi Pope; Aline Smith; Billy Yates; and Mavis Manning.
Serving as pallbearers are Jimmy Hamilton and Jackie Holdiness. Memorial contributions in honor of Ms. Hartness may be given to Indian Springs Assembly of God Church, 301 Mt. Calvary Rd, Louisville, MS 39339.
