Virginia was born February 4, 1935, to Buster and Mary Hughes Sanders. She was a member of First Apostolic Church of Louisville and she was a homemaker. She was an avid Mississippi State fan even though she never actually attended a single game; always making sure she knew what time they played and on which channel to watch them. It wasn’t uncommon to receive a phone call from her after the game inquiring as to which team won since “I dozed off a few minutes.” Her love for her Savior was deep and she was a faithful prayer warrior for her family.

Virginia is survived by her son, Larry Massey and wife, Gail, of Louisville; her daughter, Daphne Lovern and husband, Robert, of Philadelphia, Mississippi; and her sister, Elaine Hemphill of Starkville, Mississippi. One of her greatest joys was being “MawMaw” to her three grandsons: Drew Massey and wife, Kristie; Justin Lovern and wife, Haley; and Josh Massey; as well as her four great-grandchildren: Kade Massey, Mason Massey, Ansley Massey, and Matthew Lovern. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Massey; her parents; and her brother, Lonnell Sanders.

Serving as pallbearers are Drew Massey, Justin Lovern, Josh Massey, Kade Massey, Michael Hemphill, Jacob Hemphill, Adam Horton, and Tommy Sanders. Memorial contributions in honor of Virginia may be given to Craig Springs Cemetery Fund, c/o Renee Pinnix, 53 B York Road, Sturgis, MS 39769.

Services are under the direction of Nowell Massey Funeral Home, 724 North Columbus Avenue, Louisville, MS. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by signing the guest register at www.nowellmasseyfuneralhome.com.
