Mr. Sammy Charles “Odie” Massey, 64, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 3, 2017, in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be the day of the service from 12 p.m. until service time at Nowell Massey Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Rural Hill Cemetery.
Sammy Charles, a lifelong resident of the Lobutcha community in Winston County, was born September 11, 1952, to Louis and Daisy Shumaker Massey in Winston County. He loved his job as a heavy equipment operator and was retired from District 1 of Winston County. He loved to hunt, fish, and garden; and he was a big fan of Merle Haggard.
Mr. Massey is survived by his daughter, Crystal Massey; his sister, Carol Coats of Louisville; and his brother, Wendel Massey and wife, Carol, of McCool, Mississippi. Odie was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Valerie Massey; and his brother-in-law, Marshall Coats.
