Sybil J. Pearson

Sybil J. Pearson, 90, passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at Oktibbeha County Hospital Regional Medical Center in Starkville, Mississippi. Visitation will be Friday, June 23, 2017, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2017 in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Davis and Rev. Warren Hunt officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ms. Pearson was born October 25, 1926, to Thomas Weston and Ada Green Johns in Winston County. She was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church. She loved people—helping and caring for others; and cooking for her loved ones. She also enjoyed reading, working in her flowers in the yard, embroidery, shopping, and attending horseshows.

Sybil was a professional business woman and for 47 years she worked at Citizens Bank in Louisville. She began her career as a teller and worked her way through the years to Assistant Vice-President. During her working career, she was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Louisville. After her retirement, she worked at Peoples Bank for a short time, and later she was co-owner of Southern Tack and Supply Company. She always said that while others had grandchildren, she had grandpuppies; but dear to her heart are Russ and Layton Nowell, and Roper and Brayleigh Stoots each of whom she considered to be her grandchildren.

One of her greatest joys was being a mother; Sybil is survived by her daughter, June Pearson, and her nephew, Tommy Johns, all of Louisville; as well as a host of great and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lem Pearson; her parents; and four brothers, Prentiss, Ernest, Melton and Ozell Johns.

Honorary pallbearers are Danny Johns, Glenn Johns, Joey Johns, Ronnie G. “Buzzy” Johns, Tommie Johns, J. R. Stoots, and Roper Stoots.

Memorial contributions in honor of Ms. Pearson may be given to Evergreen Baptist Church, c/o Joy Childs, 4068 Highway 14 East, Louisville, MS 39339.
