Mrs. Ruth VanLandingham Whitt

Mrs. Ruth VanLandingham Whitt, 82, of Cleveland, passed away Friday, June 24, 2016, at Bolivar Medical Center Long Term Care. Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2016, at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of Life services will immediately follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2016, at Ray Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Breland officiating. Interment will be in Shelby Cemetery beside her beloved husband & Son.

Mrs. Whitt was born in Attala County, MS on October 7, 1933, to Samuel Blanton VanLandingham and Maudie Opal Mayo VanLandingham. She graduated from Louisville High School & attended Delta State College where she received an Associate Degree in Business Administration.
On October 19, 1957, Ruth married the love of her life, Robert Stanley “Stan” Whitt, Sr. in Rosedale, MS. They had one son, Robert Stanley (Robby) Whitt Jr.

Mrs. Whitt worked for 30 years in the Banking Industry. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Cleveland, the Joy Sunday School Class, the DSU Seniors Exercise Club & a member of the Rosedale Homemakers Club. She was an avid reader, gardener, a wonderful cook & an exceptional homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was very interested in the lives or her nieces & nephews and delighted in spending time with them & keeping up with their many activities & accomplishments. She also loved to fish.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Blanton VanLandingham and Maudie Opal Mayo VanLandingham; husband, Robert Stanley “Stan” Whitt. Sr.; her son, Robert Stanley “Robby” Whitt, Jr; Brothers-in-Law, Lester Griffin, Eugene Bruce & Gilmer Tharp.

Mrs. Whitt is survived by her siblings, Vernece V. Bruce of Louisville, MS, Perlene V. Tharp of Stewart, MS, Joyce V. Griffin of Cleveland, MS, Bernard VanLandingham (Brenda) of Louisville, MS, Brenda VanLandingham Bailey (Steve) of Donalsonville, GA. Ronnie VanLandingham (Ethel) of Monticello, AR; daughter-in-law, Vicki Brooke of Cleveland, MS; Her Whitt family: Rachel Whitt Wicker (Herbert ,deceased), Dalton Whitt (Becky), Freda Whitt Harris, Burl Whitt (Fran), Linda Whitt Adair (Rick), Kathy Whitt Johnson; and an abundant number of beloved nieces and nephews on both sides.

Serving as Pallbearers are Lester Griffin, Van Tharp, Chris VanLandingham, Barry VanLandingham, Michael Ingle, Todd Trawick, Chad Green, and Neal Gregory. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike McQueary, Josh Mitchell, Robby Trawick, Aaron Stovall, Bryan Olivi, Nash VanLandingham, Quincy VanLandingham, and Ethan VanLandingham.

Ms. Brasher, 79, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Neshoba County General Hospital. She lived in Linwood Community most of her life and was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and talking on the phone. She was Baptist.
 
Preceded in death: parents, Jene Jenkins & U.V. Bolen Jenkins; husband, Roland D. Brasher; daughter, Marcy Crapps; granddaughter, Misty Petty Steele;sisters, Annis Brown, Libby Reichert and Ethlyn Morris. 

Survivors, daughters, Terry Jayroe (Butch) of Starkville and Diane Stegall of Meridian; son, Mark Brasher of Philadelplhia; brothers, Otis Jenkins of Pleasant Grove, Jimmy Jenkins of Sardis and J.W. Infant Paisley Nicole Copeland

Infant Paisley Nicole Copeland passed away gently into the arms of Jesus following her premature birth on Thursday, June 16, 2016, in the OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville, Mississippi.  Private graveside services will be held Saturday, June 18, 2016.

She is survived by her mother, Aimee Marie Black of Noxapater, Mississippi; and her father, Steven Copeland of Preston, Mississippi.  Paisley is also survived by her maternal grandparents, Albert and Angie McVey also of Noxapater; and her paternal grandmother, Lori Ann Copeland also of Preston.  Paisley leaves four sisters to mourn her passing:  Makala Wilson, Laklen Presley, Anaston Presley, and Carli Swindle; and her aunt, Samantha McVey; as well as her uncle, Dustin McVey.  She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Jim Copeland.

Alice Virginia Smith Clark, previously of 5163 Highway 15 South, passed away on June 11 after a short illness. She was 94. Virginia was born on March 23, 1922 and was the fourth child of Flora (Peaster) and Jep Smith. As a child and youth, they lived in the Bevill Hill and Lynn Creek communities. She attended school at Beth Eden Community School.

James Alvin Parnell, 47, passed away on June 7, 2016 at his home in Louisville, MS. James was a blessing to everyone he met. He completely loved life and loved unconditionally everyone he met.
   He was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Parnell; brother, Johnny Wayne Parnell; and step-brother, James Warner.

Billie Rae Cooper Wood, 78, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2016, at her residence in Louisville, Mississippi.  Visitation will be Monday, June 6, 2016, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi.  Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ms. Wood was born August 13, 1937, to Thomas and Belle Sanders Cooper.  She worked as a Sales Associate and Customer Service Representative for Sears, Roebuck, and Company for many years.  She retired from the Louisville School District as a teacher assistant at Fair Elementary.  She loved children and the students in her care, as well as others, loved her as a grandmother.  After her retirement, she continued to work in the school system by being a substitute teacher as needed.  Billie Rae was a member of Wess Chapel Baptist Church where she served as the church pianist for many years.  In a Facebook tribute, Sue Clay Ward described “Mrs. Bill” as “mother, grandmother, aunt, teacher, co-worker, Sunday School teacher, Bible School Teacher, poet, pianist, friend, and servant of God!  What an awesome lady!”

Billie Rae is survived by two sons, Thomas “Tony” Wood and wife, Barbara, of Louisville; and Robert “Bobby” Wood and wife, Deanna, of Huntsville, Alabama; and her sister-in-law, Billie Dean Cooper also of Louisville.  One of her greatest joys was being “MawMaw Bill” to her grandchildren:  Charles Wood and wife, Misty; and Kathleen Lechman also of Huntsville; two great-grandchildren, Jackson Staggs and James Leslie; as well as her nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, B. W. “Bud” Wood, Jr.; her son, Brad Wood; her parents; her sister, Doris M. Pugh; her brother, Thomas D. “Tom” Cooper, Jr.; and a special niece, Dot Thiel.

Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Bannon, Dale Collins, Thomas Cooper, Joey Partridge, Doug Thompson, and Charles Wood.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to Winston-Choctaw Gideon Camp, P. O. Box 556, Louisville, MS 39339.

Clarence Edward Crabtree

Clarence Edward Crabtree, 88, passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2016, after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2016, in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Anthony Edwards, his nephew, officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service at Nowell Massey Funeral Home from 12:00 p.m. until service time. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Baptist Cemetery in Noxapater.

Mr. Crabtree was born May 2, 1928, to Ada and Clarence Crabtree in Noxapater, Mississippi. He served in the United States Navy for more than eight years. Edward proudly served aboard the USS New Jersey every day of her deployment during the Korean Conflict. In the following years, he supported his family as a farmer and welder.

Edward married the former Naomi Jones on September 21, 1985. They retired to Oxford Arkansas and enjoyed their church family, singing in the choir and the serenity of living in the country.

Edward is survived by his loving wife, Naomi and her children Lani Deppe and Brian Logsdon, their two children and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by his daughters, Peggy Outlaw and her husband Howard, of Aberdeen, Mississippi, Sherry Smith and her husband Don, of Brandy Station, Virginia and Tammy Kay of Pensacola, Florida. Mr. Crabtree is also survived by his five grandchildren: Rachel McWilliams; Heather Goodin, William Cory King, William Alewine and Amber Kay. Also left to mourn his passing are five great-grandchildren: Taylor Golden, Ally Goodin, Jayde King, Matthew and Lea Grace Dendy. Edward was blessed by a large and loving family and is survived by his sisters, Sarah, Gladys and Faye, and his brothers Jimmy and Lavelle. He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved sisters Josie and Mildred and brothers O’Neil and Andrew.

Serving as pallbearers will be Cory King, Howard Outlaw, Lloyd McWilliams, Wade Goodin, Anthony Edwards and David Harrell.

Louis Jr. Varner, 90, passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Kosciusko, Mississippi. Visitation will be Friday, June 3, 2016, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Phil Fancher, Rev. Danny Irvin, and Rev. Gary Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Randall Jackson officiating.
