Bobby Dean Black

Mr. Bobby Dean Black, 85, passed away suddenly on Friday, November 25, 2016. Visitation will be Saturday, November 26, 2016, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, and on the day of the service at Doty Springs Baptist Church in Ethel, Mississippi, from 1:30 p.m. until service time. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 27, 2016, at Doty Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Fortenberry officiating. Interment will follow in Doty Springs Cemetery.


Mr. Black was born February 23, 1931, to William Lee and Elizabeth Massey Black in Winston County. He was a member of Doty Springs Baptist Church where he served many years as a deacon; and he was a faithful member of the choir. Mr. Black loved to fish and enjoyed watching sports. He answered the call of his country by serving in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Bobby Dean is survived by his son, Barry Dean Black and wife, Helen, of Louisville; and by his daughter-in-law, Denice W. Black, of Ethel, Mississippi. He is also survived by his sister, Vera Eubanks; and three brothers, W. L. Black, Quinton Black and wife, Catherine; and Billy Charles Black. One of his greatest joys was being “PawPaw” to his five grandchildren: Linda LaBier, Jamie Black, Joshua Black and wife, Deborah, Carlos Black, and Mary-Katherine Black; as well as three great-grandchildren: Kamrie, Caroline, and Isabella. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Shumaker Black; his son, Larry L. Black; his parents; and his brother, Ernest Black.

Serving as pallbearers will be Carlos Black, Jamie Black, Josh Black, Eli Shumaker, Lee Shumaker, and Max Shumaker. Memorials may be given to Doty Springs Cemetery Fund, c/o Judy Horne, 2937 Attala Road 5120, Ethel, MS 39067.
