Glen Waymon Green

Glen Waymon Green, 87, a retired industrial construction specialist, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, LA. A memorial service was held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at Liberty Baptist Church near Linville, LA, with Rev. Kurt Auger officiating. Visitation and fellowship with family will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.

Born September 24, 1928, in Linville, LA, to Jesse and Clara Mae Green, Glen spent his early years in the piney woods of North Louisiana. He graduated from Linville High School in 1945 and attended Northeast Louisiana Junior College and Louisiana State University before marrying Faye McWhirter on December 28, 1949, in Louisville, MS.

From the late 1940’s to the 1990’s, Glen worked as a welder, pipe fitter, piping and job superintendent in pipeline, compressor station and paper mill power plant construction primarily for Ford, Bacon and Davis Construction Corp. After years of moving from one construction site to another, Glen and his family returned to the Farmerville area in the mid 1960’s where he continued to work for FB&D CC and retired as the last General Manager of the company. Following his retirement in the 1990’s, he formed and operated his own consulting company, G Square Services – Industrial Construction Specialists as a management consultant for paper mill construction in locations across the US.

Among other professional accomplishments, Glen served on the original board of commissioners in 1974 for Union General Hospital in Farmerville, LA. In 2014 Glen was awarded a 30 year member certificate with the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada by the Monroe, LA, UA Local 659.

After moving to Louisville, MS, in the mid 1990s, Glen concluded his professional career and focused much of his time on his favorite things: friends, family, fishing and football. An avid fisherman, his preferred catch of the day was white perch (crappie) and he enjoyed sharing his love for the outdoors with others. He incorporated the Friends of Legion State Park in Louisville, MS, as a 501(c) charitable organization where for many years he helped provide bird houses, bird feeders, and bird seed and organized and helped conduct an annual spring Fishing Rodeo for children. Glen was also a dedicated fan of his LSU Tigers throughout his life.

Glen is preceded in death by his wife, Faye McWhirter Green; parents, Jesse L. and Clara Mae Reagan Green; brothers: Miles K (wife, Patti) Green, Leemon Earl (wife, Joyce) Green, and Addison Jack “A.J.” (wife, Gypsy) Green; and sister, Lenora Green.
