James “Jamie” Higgason, 84, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at his residence in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 27, 2015, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2015, in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Phil Fancher and Rev. Hubert Yates officiating. Interment will follow in Welcome Chapel Jesus Name Church Cemetery.
Mr. Higgason was born on March 6, 1931, to Reuben and Neelie Burton Higgason. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and was retired from the Louisville Police Department. He answered the call of his country by serving in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Jamie is survived by his wife, Glenda Higgason; his daughter, Wand Higgason Burch and husband, Stanley, of Douglasville, Georgia; and sons, James Anthony Higgason and wife, Pam; and Jason Harlan and wife, Jessica, all of Louisville. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Jessica Higgason Henry; Leighann Burch Hembree; Olivia Higgason Grimshel and husband, Jeff; and Skylar Higgason; as well as five great-grandchildren; and his sister, Christine Thompson. Mr. Higgason was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Ruba Lynch; Pauline Sullivan; and Doris Roberts; and two brothers, Russell Higgason and Billy Dean Higgason.
Serving as pallbearers will be Dylan Alford, Jeff Grimshel, Jason Harlan, James Anthony Higgason, and Tim Palmer. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Pearson, Don Helms, and members of the Louisville Police Department. Memorials may be given to Welcome Chapel Jesus Name Church Cemetery Fund, P. O.
