Christine Cannizaro

Christine Cannizaro, a retired registered nurse, mother of two, grandmother of five and great-grandmother of six, passed away in hospice care at the age of 84 on Oct. 2. A native of Louisville, Ms., she was born Christine Johnson, known to many as "Bitsy". 

In 1948 married the late Leon Cannizaro. She is survived by children Gary Cannizaro and Steve Cannizaro, grandchildren Rachel Cannizaro Saybe and Ross Cannizaro, Andrew "Andy" Cannizaro, Lee Cannizaro and Garrett Cannizaro and great-grandchildren Gabrielle and Pierce Cannizaro, Riley and Kade Cannizaro and Whitney and Peyton Saybe. She is also survived by brothers William Johnson, Walter "Dub" Johnson, Elbert Johnson and sister, Margaret Johnson Terry. Preceding her in death were father Henry Hugh Johnson and mother Willie May Smyth Johnson, brother Hubert Johnson and sister Helen Johnson Rush. 

She was a graduate of King's Daughter Nursing School in Mississippi and worked for Touro Hospital in New Orleans and Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital in New Orleans, from which she retired. Many thanks go to the staff of The Trace in Covington, and Lakeshore Hospice who took special care of her. 

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation on Monday October 6, 2014 at 11:00 am followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm, both at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA.
