Funeral services for Mrs. Marion Jeanette (Jean) Hollis, née Boswell, Lummus will be held at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home of Meridian, MS on Monday, September 22, 2014 at 2 p.m. with Brother Charles Rook officiating. Burial will be in Meridian, MS at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held Monday, September, 22, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Marion Jeanette (Jean) Hollis, 88 died Saturday, September 20, 2014, at the Holmes County Long Term Care Center in Durant, MS. She is survived by her two daughters Glenda Hollis and her husband Donnie of Louisville, MS and Kay Crofoot and her husband, Ernie of Chestertown, MD. Three grandchildren LeNisha Tanner and her husband, Scotty of Ethel, MS, Skip Hellmig and his wife, Nikki of Baltimore, MD, Barbara Falcon of Baltimore, MD. Six great grandchildren - Emerald Barrett of Starkville, MS, Andrew and Brandon Hellmig of Virginia Beach, VA, Ginny King of Virginia Beach, VA, AJ Falcon of Orlando, FL and Tristen Hellmig of Baltimore, MD. Two great-great grandchildren, Siena and Chase King of Virginia Beach, VA. She is also survived by two sisters, Hannah Bates of Leesburg, FL, and Angie Newell of Lees Summit, Missouri, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Hollis was preceded in death by her husbands Milton O. Hollis(1989) and James Luther Lummus (1964), by her parents John Madison and Nina Bell Boswell, her one brother, Odell Boswell, and her eight sisters, Ozella Speed, Dale Tommasello, Omera(Sissy) Boswell, Beatrice Chamblee, Claudia Robinson, Julia Stuart, Ola Rigdon, and Elizabeth Boswell.
Mrs. Hollis spent most of her childhood near Hickory, MS. After graduation from high school and in her early adult years, she worked at the May Company and at the Lismone Shirt Factory. She later in life moved to and lived in Winston County, Louisville, MS. She loved sewing and baking for her family and friends. Some of her happiest days were baking pies and taking them to those who were sick, shut-in, and especially to her friends living in assisted living communities or in nursing homes. Glenda and Kay fondly remember the times the family enjoyed with their mother and her brother and sisters at Highland Park in Meridian, MS and in Hickory, MS.
She loved her Savior, Jesus Christ. She loved going to church, reading her bible every day, going to gospel singing's, and sharing God's love. When you went to visit her, you could always hear Dr. Jim Matthews, the singing surgeon and his family, or the Reverend Billy Graham playing on her radio and on her TV.
Mrs. Hollis was displaced from her home at the Winston County Nursing home when the April 28th, 2014 tornado came through Louisville. Our family is so very appreciative for the care that all of the staff extended to her during her stay with them.
A special thank you to The Pax Hospice team in Ridgeland, Ms for their compassionate, loving care, and support provided to mother.
