Myrtice Hurst Fulton

Myrtice Hurst Fulton, 91, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2014, at the Winston Medical Center Nursing Home in Louisville, Mississippi. She was born on May 13, 1922, to the late Charlie and Byrdie Hurst of Mashulaville, Mississippi, in Noxubee County, Mississippi. She lived in Washington, D.C. briefly, where she worked for J. Edgar Hoover. Myrtice married Woodrow Wilson Fulton on January 1, 1943 in Washington D. C. before he left for military service in World War II. They returned to live in Winston County for the remainder of their lives where she devoted her life as a homemaker for her family, caregiver to aging parents and other close family members. She was a tireless worker at Enon Baptist Church serving as church secretary/treasurer for many years. She also volunteered at the Winston Baptist Center for many years.

Funeral services will be in the Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel in Louisville on Thursday, February 13, 2014, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Charles Rook officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service from 11:30 a.m. until service time at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home. Interment will be beside her late husband in Enon Baptist Church Cemetery in Louisville with Rev. Tim Smith officiating.

She is survived by four sons: David Fulton and wife, Cassandra, of Cleveland, Alabama; Harry Fulton and wife, Linda, of Brooksville, Mississippi; Larry Fulton and wife, Joyce, also of Brooksville; and Tony Fulton and wife, Rhonda, of Louisville. She is also survived by three granddaughters: Dene Moore (Mark) of Meridian, Mississippi; Julie Herrington (John) of Ridgeland, Mississippi; and Christie Abercrombie (Brigg) also of Brandon; and by four grandsons: Brad Fulton (Amy) of Birmingham, Alabama; Stephen Fulton (Jamie) of Southaven, Mississippi; Brandon Fulton (Gina) of Brandon, Mississippi; and Grant Fulton of Louisville. She has 16 great-grandchildren and is also survived by Alan Hurst and wife, Bernardette, of Louisville; her closest and dearest relative of the Hurst family, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Fulton was preceded in death by her brothers, Raymond Hurst (Inez) formerly of Macon, Mississippi; and Troy Hurst (Doris), formerly of Natchez, Mississippi; and her grandson, Sloan Fulton, formerly of Cleveland, Alabama.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brad Fulton, Stephen Fulton, Brandon Fulton, Grant Fulton, Mark Moore, John Herrington, and Brigg Abercrombie. Mrs. Fulton’s great-grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be given to The Baptist Children’s Village, c/o Enon Baptist Church, 1166 Rocky Hill Road, Louisville, MS 39339.
