Bobby (Dotty) Sullivan

Mr. Bobby (Dotty) Sullivan, 82, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, October 26, 2013, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be at First United Methodist Church in Louisville on Monday, October 28, 2013, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Childs officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.


Bobby (Dotty) Sullivan was born on July 2, 1931, in Louisville, Winston County, Mississippi to John Marvin and Mae Belle Higgason Sullivan. Other than the time spent with the military, he has been a lifelong resident of Louisville.

Bobby (Dotty) has been married to Betty Lane Pou Sullivan for 61 years. They have one daughter, Sheila, who is married to Hap Hickman and one son, Dan, who is married to Valerie O'Briant Sullivan. He has two grandchildren, Tyler Sullivan and Abby Sullivan. He is also survived by a special friend, "Big Brother" Milton Bouchillon; sisters-in-law, Barbara Sullivan, Faith Chappell Sullivan, Karen Sullivan, and Joyce Pou; and by his brother-in-law, Jimmy Barnes Pou and wife, Barbara Vowell Pou. Mr.Sullivan is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Paul, Doug and Jerry Sullivan; his sister, Sally Mack Sullivan; a nephew, Chris Sullivan; and his brother-in-law, Louis Pou, Jr.

Bobby (Dotty) was a graduate of Louisville High School. He had additional education at East Central Junior College and Mississippi State University. His college career was interrupted by the Korean War. He retired with 35 years of total service in the National Guard including serving two years of active duty in the United States Army.

Bobby (Dotty) spent his early years working in local businesses and companies. He eventually became a Louisville business owner until his election as Winston County's Chancery Clerk. Bobby (Dotty) served the people of Winston County as their Chancery Clerk for five terms (20 years). His length of service in this county office is a record shared only by Shelby Woodward. Even after retiring as Chancery Clerk, Bobby(Dotty) continued to serve the people by providing information to those that sought his knowledge and expertise of matters pertaining to the Chancery Clerk office.

Bobby (Dotty) was a Shriner and a Mason. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Louisville. He has previously served the church as a member of the Board of Trustees, the Finance Committee, the Administrative Board, and the Usher Team. During his working years, he had memberships in local organizations such as the Businessmen's Club and American Legion, as well as others.

Serving as pallbearers are Tyler Sullivan, Joe Pou, Tommy Pou, John Sullivan, Jimmy Joe Duncan, Paul McMillin, Jay McMillin, and Mike Sullivan. Honorary pallbearers are Jonathan McMillin, Will Massey, Doug McKay, Matthew Hickman, Brantley Hickman, Jonathan Davis, and Nathan Davis. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church, 300 W. Main Street, Louisville, MS 39339 or to the charity of your choice
