Mr. Richard L. “Dick” Still, 84, died Thursday, September 20, 2012, at his home in Jackson, MS. Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 23rd, at 3:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church in Louisville, with Dr. Bob Schwanebeck and Rev. Scott Phillips officiating. Visitation will be at First Presbyterian Church on Sunday from 1:30 PM until service time. Interment will be in Masonic Cemetery in Louisville. Porter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Still was born July 9, 1928, in Rhode Island. He attended Annapolis, Maryland High School, where he was class Valedictorian. He received his B.S. degree in EE from the U. S. Naval Academy. He then received his law degree from George Washington Law School. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the U. S. Marine Corp, 1st 90 AA Gun Battalion. He served during the Korean War and was shot down in 1951 on a mission for the Air Corps. He was held as a POW under the North Koreans and Chinese. He served in the Honor Guard under the U. S. Navy. He was a Lt. Colonel in the U. S. Marine Corp. From 1971 to 1988, he served as the General Counsel for the Banking Commission in the U. S. House of Representatives, as well as other Congressional posts. He and his wife, Ann, moved to Louisville, MS, and he was an Asst. Professor of Business Law at Mississippi State University from 1988 to 2008. Upon retirement from Mississippi State University, he and his wife, Ann, moved to Jackson, MS. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Louisville.
Mr. Still is survived by his wife, Ann McIntyre Still of Jackson, MS; five daughters, Sally Sciacca of Alexandria, VA, Susan Protich of Newport News, VA, Elizabeth Rives of Arlington, VA, Molly Venezia of Piscataway, NJ, and Mary Still of Reston, VA; a step-daughter, Ruth Ryder of Alexandria, VA; a sister, Jackie Lithgow of Virginia; seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
