Willene Young Fryery died peacefully in her sleep on August 19, 2012, at Winston County Nursing Home. She was 92. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 20, 2012, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a celebration of her life to follow at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 21, 2012, in the Nowell-Massey Chapel in Louisville. Rev. Stacey Parvin and Rev. Kyle Ivy will officiate with Leah Boydstun providing music. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Nowell-Massey is handling arrangements.
Mrs. Fryery was born in the Mt. Pisgah Community near Noxapater, MS, to Floyd and Jessie Price Young on May 6, 1920. When the community high school closed, she and her classmates were forced to attend Burnside School in Neshoba County where she met her future husband, Edgar Fryery. She completed her education at Longino High School. Edgar often commented that the county’s decision to close Mt. Pisgah High School was one of the best things that ever happened in his life. They were married nearly 67 years before his death in 2007. They made their home in Louisville and were faithful members of First Baptist Church. Known as an excellent cook, she always had hot coffee and a fresh coconut cake or huckleberry pie for her husband and his train crew. Her grandchildren always enjoyed Mamaw’s sausage and rice at every family function and it thrilled her to go home with an empty bowl. A homemaker with a wonderful sense of humor, she was also the family historian and could quote dates and knew birthdays of almost everyone she had ever met. She loved to fish and she and Edgar enjoyed many of his retirement days on the river.
She is survived by two sons, Bill (Naomi) Fryery of Louisville and Bobby (Deborah) Fryery of Meridian; a daughter, Darlene (Ricky) Bane of Louisville; 5 grandchildren, Coker (Debbie) Fryery of Louisville, Watson (Shannon) Fryery of Saltillo, Kristen (Jeremy) Hill of Meridian, E. J. Bane of Wiggins, and Patrick Bane of Saraland, AL; 4 great-grandchildren, Hayden Fryery of Louisville, Joshua Fryery and Carley Fryery both of Saltillo, and Mason Hill of Meridian; a sister and her best friend Doris (O’Farrell) Parker of Starkville; a much loved brother, John Paul Young, of Noxapater; and her aunt and phone companion, Ira Price of Noxapater. She is celebrating in heaven with her husband, her parents, her brothers, Robert T. “Pete” Young, Mike Young, and Hubert Young and numerous other family members and friends that she loved dearly.
Pallbearers will be Coker Fryery, Watson Fryery, Jeremy Hill, E. J. Bane, Patrick Bane, Johnny Young, Mike Parker, and Wayne Green.
