Ruth Allen Miller


Mrs. Ruth Allen Miller, 87, died Sunday, January 29, 2012, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville, MS. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 31st, at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mike Childs officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Porter Funeral Home.
Mrs. Miller was born May 5, 1924, in Louisville, MS. She was a retired bookkeeper for the Winston County Welfare Department. For many years, she managed the Christian Friends Thrift Store. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Margaret Cheryl (D. A.) Richardson of Calhoun, GA; son, Richard Allen Miller of Louisville; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Stokes; sister, Nelda Thornburg of Mobile, AL; 4 grandchildren, Clarissa (Keith) Flake, Andrew (Angie) Miller, Megan Miller (Mantrell Ashford), and Caroline (Nick) Cochran; and 10 great grandchildren, Tyler Flake, Taylor Flake, Will Miller, Jake Miller, Charleigh, Kingsley, McCohen Cochran, Jett Cochran, Hunter, and Taylor.

Cynthia Bolin White


Mrs. Cynthia Bolin White, 76, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2012, in her home surrounded by her loving family in PickensvilleAlabama. Visitation will be at Betheden Lutheran Church inLouisvilleMississippi, on Sunday, January 29, 2012, from 1:30 p.m. until service time.  Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 29, 2012, at Betheden Lutheran Church with Rev. Mike Smith officiating.  Interment will be in Betheden Church Cemetery
Mrs. White was born on July 29, 1935, in Baxterville, Mississippi.  She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, and she worked as a receptionist for Arkla-Taylor Incorporated of Arkansas, retiring in 1994.  Mrs. White then moved to Pickensville, Alabama, where she spent time enjoying her family and friends.  She was an exceptional, loving, and devoted wife, a wonderful, caring mom, and a most special grandmother.  She was also a sister, an aunt and a friend who will be sadly missed by all.
Mrs. White is survived by her husband of 57 years, Bobby White, as well as by her daughter, Melissa Thompson and husband, Sam, and her granddaughter, Adriane Thompson, all of Panama City, Florida.  She is also survived by her sister, Nellie Chambliss of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and numerous nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Artie Lewis Bolin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Pace; her parents, Lillie Pearl Hickman and Wess Madden; a son, Jay Peterson; a granddaughter, Raigyn Calhoun; and 4 sisters and 3 brothers. She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Ann Horton, Lillie Kay Williams, Suette Peterson McCleer, and Shawna Howard, all of Louisville; two sisters, Lorene Hickman of Bastrop, LA, and Miriam Chain of Livingston, TX; three brothers, James Sullivan of Oak Grove, LA, Tom Wesley Madden of Harden, TX, and John Madden of Louisville, 8 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren . Walter "Wally" Thiel


Mr. Walter “Wally” Thiel, 82, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at his residence in Louisville, Mississippi.  Visitation will be at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Thursday, January 19, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. until service time.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2012, at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel in Louisville, Mississippi, with Rev. Mike Smith officiating.  Interment will be in Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Thiel was born April 4, 1929.  He was a member of Wess Chapel Baptist Church and he was a retired supervisor with Honeywell.
In addition to his wife, Dot, Mr. Thiel is survived by his daughter, Kelly Ellis of Freeport, Illinois; two stepdaughters, Tracy Collins and Robin Thompson both of Louisville, Mississippi; three sons:  Fred Thiel of Denver, Colorado, Darrell Thiel of Homestead, Florida, and Larry Thiel of Freeport, Illinois; and one stepson, Chris Brannon of Louisville, Mississippi.  Mr. Thiel also has 12 grandchildren and one great-granchild.
Pallbearers will be Chris Brannonn, Chase Collins, Doug Thompson, Dale Collins, Jake Thompson, Josh Thompson, and Cody Collins.

Iris Burrage Massey


Mrs. Iris Burrage Massey, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 15, 2012, at AndersonRegional Medical Center in MeridianMississippi, surrounded by her loving family.  Visitation will be at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in LouisvilleMississippi, on Monday, January 16, 2012, from 5:00 p.m.until 8:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at NoxapaterBaptist Church in NoxapaterMississippi, with Rev. Trent Bilbo and her grandson, Rev. Chris Vowell officiating.  Interment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery
Mrs. Massey was born November 5, 1926, and lived in the Noxapater community with her husband, Alvin Massey, a farmer and former supervisor for Winston County.  She was a member of Noxapater Baptist Church as well as a devoted mother and grandmother who faithfully exhibited the Fruits of the Spirit to everyone who knew her.  Mrs. Massey was one of the first females to serve as a Postmaster for the United States Postal Service from which she retired.
Mrs. Massey is survived by three daughters:  Wanda McBrayer and husband, Harold, of Meridian, Mississippi; Brenda Vowell and husband, David, of Philadelphia, Mississippi; and Carla Hensley and husband, Quintin, of Columbus, Mississippi.  She is also survived by two sons, Al Massey and wife, Janet, and Sid Massey and wife, Sonja, all of Noxapater, Mississippi.  In addition, Mrs. Massey has three brothers, Wyatt Burrage and wife, Millie, of Meridian, Mississippi; Tom Edd Burrage and wife, Mae Dell, of Moss Point, Mississippi; and Conner Hanna of Louisville, Mississippi.  Mrs. Massey also has 14 grandchildren:  Kevin and Lynette McBrayer, Dana and Jim Farmer, Brent and Kasey McBrayer, Chris and Stacey Vowell, Craig and Melody Vowell, Ginger and Jordan Flake, Leah and Chris Cheatham, Will and Emily Massey, Jason and Erin Fulcher, Lauren Hensley, Dylan Hensley, Drew Massey, Aubrey and Bruce Manning, and Brooke Massey. She has 14 great-grandchildren:  Tyler, Anna Grace and Mary Katelyn McBrayer; Anna Christian, Sarah Katherine and Myles Farmer; Parker Dixon, Davis and Wyatt McBrayer; Mary Laurence Vowell; Jack Flake; Bryce and Hayden Cheatham; and Drake Fulcher.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Massey; her parents, William Irvin and Lucia Alice Price Burrage; and nine siblings.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons:  Kevin McBrayer, Brent McBrayer, Chris Vowell, Craig Vowell, Will Massey, Jason Fulcher, Dylan Hensley, and Drew Massey.

Selby K. Sullivan


Mr. Selby K. Sullivan, 87, died Sunday, January 15, 2012, at Winston County Nursing Home in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, Jan. 18th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Hubert Yates officiating. Interment will be in Good Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Porter Funeral Home.
Mr. Sullivan was born August 24, 1924, in Winston County, MS. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and the oldest member of the Winstonville Masonic Lodge. He worked for the Fair Company and was office manager for Jarvis Oil Company. He was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church, and a past president of the Ellison Ridge Water Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alice Bertha and William Jackson Sullivan; a daughter, Alma Jolene Sullivan; sisters, Gondine Sullivan, Alice Clay Tingle, and Decile Hisaw; and brothers, Grover Sullivan, Randle Sullivan, J. W. Sullivan, and Roy Sullivan.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Archie Ree Whitehead Sullivan of Louisville; a daughter, Terressa (Danny) Ward of Louisville; a sister, Jerleen Horn of Des Allemands, LA; a brother, Billy Sullivan of Louisville; two grandchildren, Josh (Ginger) Ward of Orange City, FL, and Jolie (Jonathan) Eaves of Louisville; and three great grandchildren, Chandler Foster of Orange City, FL, Dawson Eaves and Hayze Eaves, both of Louisville.

Martha Sue Hendrix Price

Martha Sue Hendrix Price, age 94, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, Jan. 13, 2012 at Homeplace in Columbus, MS. She was born Jan. 29,1917 in Baldwyn, MS to Joe B. and Mary E. Hendrix. She was a retired Federal Employee, having gone to Washington, D.C. in 1942. There she met and married Col. George L. Price. She moved back to Ms. in 2005. Mrs. Price was preceded in death by her parents, husband Col. George L. Price, brothers, Talmadge and Joseph Hendrix, sisters, Thederal Dempsey and Kittie Mae Barnhill, grand-daughter Christian Mahan. She is survived by her daughter Kathy Shipp (Duke) of Chesapeake, VA., grandson Paul Mahan of Virginia Beach, VA. Sister-in-law Anne Hendrix of Columbus, MS and 2 great grandchildren. Nieces: Joy Childs, Barbara Mathews and Rebecca Ellis of Louisville, MS. Linda Childs of Ardadelphia, AR and Sue Pate of Jackson, MS., Mary Kay Suite of Mechanicsville, MD Nephews: Joseph A. Hendrix Jr. of New Orleans, LA, Perry and Joe M. Hendrix of Columbus, MS., Jack Dempsey of Cashiers, NC and George E. Price of Prescott, AZ. Pallbearers will be great nephews. Mr. Ralph Sinclair, 66, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 14, 2012, at his residence in Louisville, Mississippi, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Sinclair was born April 26, 1945.  He was a member of Poplar Flat Baptist Church and as a Mason, he was a member of the Winstonville Lodge 277.  Mr. Sinclair was employed in the Research and Development Department of Taylor Machine Works, retiring after 45 years.  He also served his country as a member of the National Guard.Mr. Sinclair is survived by his wife, Brenda Arnett Sinclair, and his daughter, Scarlett Bane and husband, Clay, all of Louisville, Mississippi.  He is also survived by two sisters, Dot Mitchell and husband, Jack, also of Louisville, Mississippi, and Sue Goodson and husband, Jeff, of Henderson, Texas; as well as one brother, Clayton Sinclair and wife, Dale, also of Louisville.  Mr. Sinclair is survived by two grandchildren, Ashlee and Will Bane; his mother-in-law, Virginia Arnett, all of Louisville, Mississippi, and a host of nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents, William Alex and Verna Taylor Sinclair; and three brothers, Terrell, Norman, and Raymond Sinclair.Pallbearers will be Bill Sinclair, Steve Sinclair, Brad Sinclair, Vernon Hathcock, Barry Jackson, and Rudy Pope.  Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Tim Clark, Billy Watson, Charles Bond, Buster Moody, Tommy Jefcoat, Bobby Joe Gregory, and members of the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class..   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Poplar Flat Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Bobby Stubbs, P. Mrs. Ray was born April 29, 1927, in Louisville, MS . She is preceded in death by her husband, S. T. Ray; and her parents, Sammie Dell Wilson and Hugh Robert Donald.
She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Ray of Louisville; and Sandy Ray, and her husband, Col James T. Patterson, of Nashville, TN; a son, S. T. Ray, Jr., and his wife, Allyn, of Jackson, MS; two grandchildren, Emily Ray (Matt) Oswalt, and Douglas Ray; and two great grandchildren, Thomas Hewitt Oswalt and Andrew Alan Oswalt.

Curtis O. Hamill


Mr. Curtis O. Hamill, 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 6, 2012, at Winston Medical Center in Louisville, Mississippi. Visitation will be at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Saturday, January 7, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 8, 2012, at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel in Louisville, Mississippi, with Rev. Fred Frazier, Jr. and Rev. Ted Yates officiating. Interment will be in Bevill Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Hamill was born February 16, 1923, and lived his entire life in the Pugh’s Mill community in Winston County with his wife of 61 years, Frances Boykin Hamill. Mr. Hamill, a retired farmer, was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and grow vegetables in his gardens and truckpatches.  He was a member of First Apostolic Church of Louisville.  For 33 years he worked in the Agronomy Department at Mississippi State University, retiring April 30, 1983.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Hamill is survived by two daughters: Gail Massey and husband, Larry, of Louisville, Mississippi, and Lisa Miller of Raymond, Mississippi.  Mr. Hamill also has four grandchildren:  Drew Massey and wife, Kristie, and Josh Massey of Louisville, Mississippi; and Ashley and Adam Wade of Raymond, Mississippi.  He is survived by three great-granchildren, Kade and Mason Massey of Louisville, Mississippi, and Jayden Brown of Raymond, Mississippi.  Mr. Hamill is also survived by one sister, Laura Mae Jones and husband, Rabel, of Louisville, Mississippi, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Mary Lucas Hamill, stepmother, Sally Peaster Hamill; his brother, Oakley Hamill; and his sister, Pauline Kinard.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Jackson, Drew Massey, Josh Massey, Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth McMinn and John D. Shaw.

Dorris Hickman Jones


Mr. Dorris Hickman Jones, 87, died Monday, January 2, 2012, at Winston County Nursing Home in Louisville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 4th, at Porter Funeral Home, with Dr. Brett Golson officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Jones was born August 16, 1924, in Louisville, MS. He and his wife, Helen, owned and operated Jones Men’s Wear in Louisville for over 29 years. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II, and Korea. He was a member of the Louisville Rotary Club, where he served as president in 1976. He was a member of the Louisville/Winston County Chamber of Commerce, and served on the Board of Directors of Sunburst Bank. He was a lifelong member and lifetime deacon at First Baptist Church. After his retirement, he enjoyed fishing, golfing, and all Mississippi State athletic events.
He was preceded in death by his son, David Rives Jones, and his parents, Verna and J. B. Jones, and a brother, James Jones.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Rives Jones of Louisville; four sisters, Irene Lipscomb of Mashulaville, MS, Mavis Barlow and Syble Miles, both of Florence, MS, and Elizabeth Ezell of Tyler, TX; a sister-in-law, Eloise (Charles) Gully of Louisville; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Brooks Gully, Jim House, Barton Wynn, Paul Lipscomb, Jimmy Jones, and Mark Townsend.

Mr. Elmer Arnell Hindman, 89, died Sunday, January 1, 2012, at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, TN. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 4th, at Porter Funeral Home, with interment in Bevill Hill Methodist Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Porter Funeral Home. Mr. Hindman was born October 16, 1922 in Louisville, MS. He was a self-employed electrical and plumbing contractor. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jettye Hindman.
He is survived by four daughters, Peggy Hindman of Louisville, Patty (Lee) Mitchell of Louisville, Pam (Steve) Howard of Laurel, MS, and Penny (J.L.) Bowman of Louisville; Paul (Annetta) Hindman of Memphis, TN, Perry (Barbara) Hindman of Louisville, Phillip (Myra) Hindman of Northport, AL, Pete Hindman of Brandon, MS, and Patrick (Tina) Hindman of Tuscaloosa, AL; sisters, Ruth Noe of Memphis, TN, Jody Deramus of Chantilly, VA, Helen Bush of Houston, TX; a brother, Willie Carl Hindman of Olive Branch, MS; 15 Grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
Grandson will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in LouisvilleMississippi, on Monday, January 2, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at Memorial Park Cemetery in LouisvilleMississippi, with Rev. Lawrence Pool officiating.    
Mr. Smith was born March 13, 1931.  He was a retired 911 Dispatcher for the Jackson Police Department.  He answered the call of his country by serving in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1954.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Kathleen, and his daughter, Karen Smith, both of Louisville, Mississippi, and his son, Joe Smith and wife, Rhonda, of Brandon, Mississippi.  He is also survived by two grandsons:  Joseph Smith of Starkville, Mississippi, and David Smith of Vicksburg, Mississippi.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Archie T. and Vallie Musgrove Smith.
